A foil digital caliper (most commonly referred to as a digital foil thickness gauge or a flat-anvil caliper gauge) is an ultra-precision metrology tool engineered specifically to measure the thickness of extra-thin, flexible, and highly compressible sheets like aluminium foil, plastic films, laminates, and fine paper. Standard digital calipers feature sharp, narrow metal jaws that can easily pinch, tear, or warp delicate materials. A foil gauge overcomes this by using wide, perfectly flat, round contact faces (called anvils) and a spring-loaded trigger mechanism to apply uniform pressure.
