A long jaw inside caliper (available in vernier, dial, and digital models) is a highly specialized metrology tool designed to measure the internal diameter, slot width, or opening size of large or deeply recessed cavities. While standard calipers feature short, knife-edge upper jaws that can only reach a few centimeters into a hole, a long jaw inside caliper features significantly extended, outward-facing jaws (often called "internal nibs"). This extra length allows the tool to reach deep inside a workpiece to take readings that are otherwise physically obstructed by external walls, flanges, or housings.
